Projects
Beta Chapter,
Pennsylvania, is committed to a number of projects that benefit
our immediate community, the education of future educators and
the education of women around the world.
- We offer a
$200 scholarship to a student at Kutztown University who is studying
education. To increase money for chapter scholarships, a plant
sale is held at each meeting, with members pre-ordering plants
at the time they reserve their luncheon meal and picking them
up at the meeting.
- We offer a
grant-in-aid to a high school senior who plans to study education.
- In 2002 we
raffled a hand-tatted doily framed under glass in a small wooden
tea tray to raise money for The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
World
Fellowships Fund, which offers $5000 fellowships to women
graduate students from countries other than those with Delta
Kappa Gamma organizations who are studying at universities in
the United States or Canada.
- Throughout
the year members collect items on the wish list of the Berks County Women in Crisis Center to distribute
at Christmas time. Items such as toiletries, disposable diapers,
stationery, books, magazines, small clothing items for children
and babies, toys, etc. are welcomed there with open arms.
- Our budget
includes an annual contribution to Alice Lloyd College in Pippin Passes, Kentucky.
In addition to the budgeted amount, a collection basket is passed
at the December meeting for individual contributions from members.
