Qualifications
for Membership in Delta Kappa Gamma
To be considered
for invitation to active membership, a woman educator must:
- Have had professional
preparation.
- Have had three
or more years of experience as a professional educator
- Be employed
in educational work at the time of her election.
- Be an educator
who is employed or lives in the chapter area.
- Demonstrate
professional proficiency, with characteristics such as:
- knowledge
and skill in her area of educational work
- active participation
in professional groups at local, state, regional, national and
international levels
- interest in
professional growth revealed through reading, attending workshops,
participating in educational travel and pursuing graduate study
- willingness
to participate in professional research and investigation
- willingness
to assume leadership responsibilities.
- Be a contributing
member of her community

What Does Employed
in Educational Work Mean?
Professional
educators are not just school or university teachers. Educational
work includes:
- K12 teachers
- College or
university professors and adjunct instructors working in any
discipline
- Substitute
teachers who work full time, year round
- Paid classroom
aides
- Librarians,
K12 and university
- School nurses,
nursing school instructors, public health nurses, community health
educators
- Museum curators
and docents
- Continuing
adult education instructors
- Business and
industry employee trainers
