Happenings at the January 14, 2017 Meeting

President Roxanne Thomas welcomed the members and guests to the meeting at the Huntington City Library. The members enjoyed a continental breakfast prepared by the hostess committee: Ann Ambler, chairman, Joyle Allen, Carol Herzog and Karen Kinney.

Krista Layman, shown on the left, founder of Kate's Kart, is creator of a non-profit organization dedicated to giving new books to children in the hospitals.  She told how the idea had grown from a single cart in memory of her daughter, Kate, to a foundation that has an annual budget of $25,000.  Members donated many new books to be given to children.

The website for the organization, Kate's Kart - Books from the Heart - is kateskart.org.  It can also be found on Facebook.

Janet Vesa spoke for the Standing Rules committee and reminded the members that a copy had been e-mailed to them earlier.  Changes have been made to be in compliance with International's standards.  The rules will be printed and will be available to the membership soon.  The Standing Rules update can be found on the Standing Rules page.

Happenings at the November 12, 2016 Meeting

President Roxanne Thomas welcomed the members and guests to the meeting at the Huntington City Library.  The meeting location was changed since the planned trip to Indianapolis was cancelled.  Barbara Buroker and her committee, Karen Kinney, Barba Eickhoff, Carol Herzog, Pat Hauenstein and Joyle Allen, planned the replacement meeting that began with a continental breakfast.

Karen Kinney, Alpha Zeta Treasurer, presented the program titled "Children's Literature...It's Not Just for Kids."  She enlisted Barbara Overdeer, Barbara Buroker, Roxanne Thomas, Kathaleen Reese, Karen Bandelier, Carol Herzog, Susan Keefer, Janet Vesa, Donna Ott and Darlene Bockelman as performers in a skit about a sleepy, grumpy hamster named Tank as different office supplies were enlivened by the actors.

Initiation for Trish Groholski was held and Toni Brewster was reinstated.  They were welcomed by the members.

The January meeting will be a presentation by Krista Layman, who established Kate's Kart in honor of her daughter.  Kate's Kart is a non-profit organization that donates new books to hospitalized children.

Joyle Allen conducted a memorial service in honor of Roberta Lael Littlefield and Eileen Meyer.  Margaret Wilson related memories of her friend Leal.  Nancy Kolb read a eulogy written by Judy Ward and added some of her own memories of Eileen.

Discussion was held about starting a Facebook page to send information to members.  Karen Bandelier moved and Susan Keefer seconded to investigate starting a Facebook page.

The January meeting will also be held at the Huntington Library.  The meeting closed following the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song.
