About Us

Mission Statement:
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Vision Statement:
Leading Women Educators Impacting
Education Worldwide

Alpha Kappa State is the Connecticut state organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, which includes more than 82,000 members in 17 countries. As Key Women Educators we strive for excellence in education and dedicate ourselves to making a difference in students’ lives, in our communities, and in the world. Connecticut has sixteen chapters with nearly 800 members representing all levels and disciplines of education.

Membership in the Society is by invitation only and carries with it responsibility as well as honor. Members commit to an active role in special projects, programs, and organizational activities.

Alpha Kappa State promotes several literacy programs in Connecticut. Books are donated to community organizations, and members volunteer for a variety of literacy needs and programs. Some chapters have "Books for Babies" programs giving English/Spanish book kits to newborns in area hospitals.

The Curriculum of Hope for a Peaceful World is a Standing Committee that promotes peace education/conflict resolution information and resources via an international newsletter and teacher friendly curriculum guide. Conflict resolution skills are taught through a variety of activities focusing on celebrating diversity, protecting the environment, and promoting peace.

Alpha Kappa State supports numerous social advocacy projects. Shelters and homes for men, women, and children in our state are the beneficiaries of chapter contributions of money, food, books, and other needed items such as diapers. Members donate countless volunteer hours to such projects.
