Annual Projects
Books For Newborns
This project was started in
1994 by our chapter. Each newborn at Columbia Mainland Hospital in Texas
City receives a book. Our hope is that the child's parent(s) will read this
book to the baby and foster a love of reading in the child. We provide over
400 books each year.
Grants in Aid
Each year our chapter awards
at least one scholarship to a young lady from the Texas City area who has
indicated a desire to enter the field of education. We also provide grants
for members who are continuing their education. Several of our grant recipients
are now in the teaching profession.
Resource Crisis Center
For several years we have aided
the Women's Crisis Resource Center in a variey of ways including donating
clothing and other items.
Other Projects
We undertake other projects
throughout the year. Some of these vary from year to year. They include
donating school supplies for area schools and collecting items for a local
nursing facility.
