Children’s International Education Centers
A section of our local library is designated as a C.I.E.C. Center. We donate the proceeds from our Silent Auction to this fund. In addition, local dues money is designated for this worthwhile project. In 2009, we donated a total of $399.00.
Train Stop Storytelling Festival
The Festival is celebrating its 10th year. The Festival is being moved back to May and Beta Rho is partnering with Maury County Library to combine their history fair with the Festival. Tentative date is May 4-5.
Beta Rho works with community partners to plan this annual event. Storytellers are employed to perform for a two-day event at the local Maury County Park. It is free to all visitors, so all necessary funds must be obtained through donations. Sheila Hickman, chairperson for the event, has been fortunate to receive grants from Delta Kappa Gamma International, Beta Rho Chapter, and local businesses have been generous as well. It has grown steadily over the past several years with student field trips, a high school art contest, and much support from the community and surrounding areas.
Scholarship to Columbia State Community College
A $200 scholarship is provided each year to a Columbia State for a deserving student in the field of Education.
“New Teacher” Bags
Tote bags are filled with “teacher supplies,” donated by our members, and are given to newly hired teachers in our county.
