President's message

I hope everyone is staying warm and safe. This has certainly been a rough winter. We were sorry to cancel the January chapter meeting due to the weather. Our thanks to Leigh Workman who was to be our hostess. The Executive Board met on January 29 to discuss some upcoming events. Our next chapter meeting is Monday, March 7 at either David Lipscomb University or Crieve Hall church of Christ. As of this newsletter, the place to meet is still undecided. We will let you know through the phone tree. Three DLU student teachers will share their student teaching experiences with us. We hope to see you there!

Legislative Symposium

Several Beta members have signed up to attend the Tuesday evening session at The Millennium Maxwell House Hotel. Those interested will meet at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner at the restaurant before the 7:30 p.m. session. Doris Hendrix and Jan Brown have signed up to attend the Wednesday morning breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Information from the symposium will be shared at the next chapter meeting.

Executive Board Meeting

Seven members were able to attend the meeting where we discussed the following topics: treasurer’s report, president’s report, Strategic Action Plan, Xi State Excellence Award, Legislative Symposium, upcoming programs, donations to Xi State and Delta Kappa Gamma activities, Nominations for Distinctive Service to Education Award, and Order of the Rose nominations.

Ronaald McDonald House

The annual visit to the Ronald McDonald House is set for Saturday, April 23 at 3:00. A sign-up sheet will be distributed at the next meeting for the meal we will take. Please be collecting the following items that are needed: gently used books (children and adult), cookies, chips, cheese and crackers, granola bars, soups, pop-tarts, etc.

Strategic Action Plan

At the officers’ training last spring, a state strategic action plan was distributed and chapters were encouraged to develop their own plans. It is a good way for a chapter to stay focused on the principles of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. A date will be set this spring for anyone interested in developing a plan for Beta chapter. More information will be given at the March meeting.

Xi State Registration

Registration forms are now available online for the convention in June.

Member recognitions

The following members have been nominated for membership on state committees for the next biennium. Congratulations and thank you for serving. If I left anyone out, please let me know.

    Valentine Smile

On Valentine’s Day we think of those
    Who make our lives worthwhile,
    Those gracious, friendly people who
We think of with a smile.

I am fortunate to know you
That’s why I want to say,
To a rare and special person,
    Happy Valentine’s Day!
