The Story of TeachSpace - Exciting Teachers and Students in STEM

Have you ever wondered why students really need to know something in the area of science, technology, engineering, or math?  How do you really show students what an engineer does or how exciting it can be to understand how something works?  Do you just have your students memorize facts regarding STEM because you really don't see how everything ties together?  Billy Hix and Terry Sue Fanning have been trying to change that.  TeachSpace was started ten years ago to assist rural, under served teachers with teaching hands-on, standards-based methods to better implement STEM activities in the classroom.

TeachSpace was founded by Billy Hix and Terry Sue Fanning and has won local, state, and national honors for their work.  TeachSpace programs have been conducted with teachers from Maine to Alabama.  In addition, Hix and Fanning have been doing educational TV shows for the past 4 years in space related topics.  TeachSpace also conducts professional development teacher space camps for area schools teachers at the US Space and Rocket Center. In addition to his work at Motlow College in Information Systems and Education Technology, Billy is a Faculty Fellow with NASA and works as an advisor on several educational projects.  Terry Sue is the Curriculum and Technology Director at Moore County schools.   She has also managed for a number of years the NASA Explorer Schools program for schools systems across the southeastern United States.

Come to the meeting at 4:30 pm on September 11, 2006 at Robert E Lee school in Tullahoma!
