Alteady it is November and we are preparing for our 2008 initiation dinner on Monday, November 10. I'm looking forward to welcoming our two incoming members. I know we will enjoy having Margaret Cunningham and Judy Jackson with us and hearing their remarks. I hope to see you there!

We will be initiating two new members on November 10 and we will also be welcoming back a former member.

New members: Charle Coffey and Jacque Johnson - Charle is the Education Department Chair at Motlow and Jacque is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Development and wears many hats in keeping that program going at Motlow.

Returning member: Pam Collins Williams - Pam is the daughter of Ruth Collins, long time Alpha Pi member, and she teaches at Farrar.

COMMITTEE CORNER

Rules Committee . Proposed changes in the Committee section of the Alpha Pi Chapter Rules were approved at the September meeting. Copies of the new Alpha Pi chapter rules will be distributed for inclusion in the 2008-09 Yearbook.

Website Committee . The newsletter will be available from the Alpha Pi website this year. Members will receive an email letting them know when each newsletter is available for viewing. This change is part of an international emphasis on paperless communication in Delta Kappa Gamma.

XI STATE NOTES

----Join Dr. Rita King, international speaker, educational consultant and trainer for a day packed with techniques, strategies and activities to differentiate instruction in K-12 classrooms. You will take away easy activities tthat address the standards and skills in all curriculum areas. Rita will share activities and techniques from her books and materials on differential instruction for reading, writing, assessment and management. The seminar is offered on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 9 am until 4 pm at the University of the South prior to the Xi State Convention. Patty has applications for this free seminar.

Dates: February 10-11, 2009

Time: February 10 - 7:30-9:30 pm Legislative Symposium, February 11 - 6:30-7:30 am Legislative Breakfast
Critical issues to be discussed : NCLB - restructuring of administrative licensure requirements, changes in the new state testing plan, other changes taking place in education in Tennessee. Applications available online or from Patty. Applications due in by January 11, 2009.
