PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello Alpha Pi members!

Thank you to all who attended our March meeting. I look forward to seeing those members, as well as any who were absent, at our April 16 meeting. This will be a celebration of our Delta Kappa Gamma founders as our Area VI Director, Cecilia Johnson, joins us for the brunch and meeting. We will also present grant-in-aid scholarships to a Tullahoma High School senior and a Coffee County High School senior - both girls who are planning to become teachers. What better way to encourage them in their endeavors than to be there to cheer their high school success and wish them well in the future!

Alpha Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma gives you a strong voice in times of educational crises so please take advantage of your membership in this prestigious organization. Our last meeting on March 7 at BelAire Elementary School featured a program presented by Rena Flowers, a National Board Certified teacher at BelAire. This is an advanced teaching credential and the goal is to establish a set of professional standards to increase the quality of teaching and student learning across the nation. How wonderful to have a teacher with this credential right here in Coffee County!

See you at 10:30 pm on April 16 at Lakewood Country Club in Tullahoma for our last meeting before summer break.

Carmen

The registration form is now available!
Download the list of proposed workshops for the convention.

Here are a few workshop descriptions:

Membership Matters - Recruiting members is just the first step. Getting members involved is
the key to having a growing, healthy chapter. This session will provide ideas for recruiting,
involving and retaining members.

Points and More Points - The Awards Committee will present a workshop on the way
to accumulate points on the Chapter Excellence Award form.

Digital Writing Tools for Literacy Support in the Secondary Classroom - This
workshop will highlight potential tools for integrating digital literacy resources into the secondary classroom. Some examples of topics to be reviewed include digital prewriting tools, electronic essay graders, digital portfolios, electronic multicultural exchange projects, blogging activities and many more.

Ideas for Those Who Teach The Gifted - Interested in the needs of gifted children? If so,
this is the workshop for you. Suggested activities and nifty ideas will be shared. Feel
free to share your own ideas if you like.

Taming the Beast—Stress! - Information on handling daily situations to accomplish more
and stress less. Discussion and activities will concentrate on the right diet, ways of thinking
about troubles, and exercises which will help keep you in the comfort zone.

Tai Chi for the TOTAL Novice - Come and get energized with this ancient Chinese exercise.
Tai Chi is effective at relieving stress and promoting longer, more active lives. The
presenter is a novice as well, but will introduce you to the gentle flowing movements.

Hula for Beginners, Part II - This presentation in dancing hula will give you a review of basic
hula steps and an intro to a hula dance. Let’s exercise for fun, both mentally and physically!

So you can see, there are workshops for every interest! I learned how to start the Alpha Pi website at a Xi State workshop!
