PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Xi State Convention is right around the corner. It will be held on June 4, 5, 6 at the University of the South in Sewanee. I hope that many of you will plan to attend. It is a wonderful weekend of personal and professional growth and also fellowship with other Delta Kappa Gamma members.

Alpha Pi will be hosting the new member tea this year at 3:45pm on June 4. It will be our job to welcome all the new initiates so the more of us there, the better. Please put this on your calendar and plan to attend.

We had an excellent program at our March meeting presented by dietician Lois Thormalean. Thanks so much to Lois for the information on heart attack symptoms in women and the advice on eating properly for a healthy heart.

Plans are in the making for our April 25th Founders Day brunch. We will have a special speaker and will present our scholarship recipients. Someone will contact you for your reservation soon - I hope you will all be able to attend!

Biennium 2008-2010 Issue 4
March 2009

Welcome to Our New Members
We initiated two new members on November 10 and we are also welcoming back a former member.

New members: Charle Coffey and Jacque Johnson - Charle is the Education Department Chair at Motlow and Jacque is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Development and wears many hats in keeping that program going at Motlow.

Returning member: Pam Collins Williams - Pam is the daughter of Ruth Collins, long time Alpha Pi member, and she teaches at Farrar.

Xi State Convention
Follow this link for an overview of the convention and plan which events you want to attend. Please note two events that involve our chapter:

Thursday, June 4, 3:45pm - Alpha Pi hosts the new member tea.

Saturday, June 6, 8:00am - Ceremony of Remembrance will include recognition of our member Carol Preiser. Our chapter members will be asked to stand to commemorate Carol's devotion to Delta Kappa Gamma and we all owe it to her example of excellent membership to be there.

The registration form must be submitted by May 1 if you want the most economical prices for the convention package or individual events.

Join Dr. Rita King, international speaker, educational consultant and trainer for a day packed with techniques, strategies and activities to differentiate instruction in K-12 classrooms. You will take away easy activities tthat address the standards and skills in all curriculum areas. Rita will share activities and techniques from her books and materials on differential instruction for reading, writing, assessment and management. The seminar is offered on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 9 am until 4 pm at the University of the South prior to the Xi State Convention. Patty has applications for this free seminar.
There will be a market at convention where chapters can sell items if they choose. This will be in Gailor Hall all day Friday. There will also be an arts & crafts display for chapter members to show their creative talents. We will need several items for our table so please be thinking of items you might like to contribute. All items will be returned to you.

Something to Consider

Because of added responsibilities, Joyce Hiebert will relinquish her duties as treasurer of Alpha Pi chapter as of June 9, 2009. She has done a wonderful job. Please give some thought as to whether you might be interested in filling this position for the 2009-2010 year.
