PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Happy New Year to everyone! We had a wonderful initiation dinner at Patch Manor on November 9 with 21 members present. We initiated two new members, Stephanie Duncan and Lisa Mansfield, both second grade teachers from East Lincoln Elementary School. Karla Childs will be initiated in February. Karla works with Joyce Hiebert in the Tullahoma Adult Education Center. We welcome all three new members! Looking ahead, we have three meetings to look forward to this spring. On February 8, we will meet at Robert E. Lee Elementary School. On March 8, we will meet at Hickerson Elementary School. We will have our Founders' Day Brunch on April 24 at the Lakewood Country Club. I hope to see everyone February 8 at Robert E. Lee Elementary School when we will initiate Karla Childs. Thanks to Joan Pockrus for a wonderful new yearbook. Please let her know if you have not received you 2009-2010 copy through the mail. Website Newsletters . The newsletter will be available from the Alpha Pi website this year. Members will receive an email letting them know when each newsletter is available for viewing. This change is part of an international emphasis on paperless communication in Delta Kappa Gamma. Delta Kappa Gamma International . Annual biennial reports are due in by February 1. The Society Website and social network is being premiered in mid January. Check the DKG News and the Xi State News for registration forms for international and state meetings. The 2010 International Convention will be July 20-24 in Spokane, Washington. Go for the Gold . Martha Scarbrough has volunteered to chair an ad hock committee for striving to become a gold chapter this year as Delta Kappa Gamma celebrates its 75th anniversary. Here are some ideas to begin thinking about:
XI STATE NOTES The Xi State Legislative Symposium is scheduled for February 9 and 10, 2010. Registration deadline is January 10, 2010 . Registration form is in the November 2009 "Xi State News." You can also access this form on the Xi State website. The cost per person is $20.00. The activities include a forum on Tuesday night beginning at 7:30 p.m., a Wednesday morning breakfast at 6:30 a.m., and visits with legislators in Legislative Plaza following the breakfast. The forum and breakfast will be held at the Millennium Maxwell Hotel in Nashville . The room cost is $105.00 per room + tax. Hotel reservations are the responsibility of each attendee. Martha Scarbrough plans to attend. If any of you plan to attend and would like to make plans to travel together and share room costs, please let her know. INTERNATIONAL NOTESMany exciting things are happening in Delta Kappa Gamma. There is a new logo with both long and short versions. The Society's Social Network will roll out this fall with numerous services, belts, whistles and online connections for members. Stay connected and watch for regular announcements on the web site. Please note that the next issue of the NEWS will not be mailed to you. It will be posted online (Downloads, Publications).
