Toward the end of The Presidents’ Banquet on Saturday evening, suspense filled the air. Everyone anxiously awaited the announcement. Who would receive the most prestigious award in the state? After a long listing of her qualifications, Haddie Weber was proclaimed as the 2011 recipient, the 22 nd Delta Kappa Gamma woman to be bestowed with this honor. Joy, smiles, cheers, applause then filled the room as Haddie approached the podium and accepted her award.
A member in Delta Kappa Gamma since 1984, Haddie Weber has enthusiastically shared her talents with this organization. This retired music educator, current piano teacher, and church organist has served DKG as pianist at state conventions and regional conferences and as a vocalist in many state, regional, and international choruses. She also acted as The State Music Committee Chairman from 1991-93 and led workshops on music at state area conferences.
As Judith Schaffer stated, “Haddie never says NO when asked to take on a task!” Over the years, she has filled many leadership positions in Alpha Phi Chapter, including several terms as President. She also served Alpha Alpha State as the 2003-05 Recording Secretary, as Chairman of Communications, World Fellowship, and Projects Committees and as a member on numerous other committees. She has just completed a term on the Pennsylvania Expansion Team.
Haddie has fervently supported the good works of Delta Kappa Gamma. She not only established in her chapter an annual scholarship for a female education major, but also leads fund-raising efforts to maintain it. For the state, she presented workshops on DKG collaborations with ABC Quilts, Parents Anonymous, and America’s Promise.
In so many ways, Haddie has been a cheerleader for active membership in DKG. She created a chapter newsletter contest and designed a brochure for the state. According to Sarah Moreno, President of Alpha Phi Chapter, “She has worked tirelessly to bring new membership into our chapter, has assisted new officers in keeping alive our traditions, and brings back from conventions a sense of purpose to our members.”
Our 2011 Alpha Alpha State Achievement Awardee is a petite powerhouse with limitless enthusiasm, amazing humility, and impeccable style. In short, she graciously wears a vast variety of hats (along with adorable high heels) and is an invaluable asset to Delta Kappa Gamma. Congratulations, Haddie!
