Beta Chapter, organized May 29, 1938, in Kutztown, celebrated Founders Day in a big way, Saturday, May 6. First vice-president Lucretia Page organized a luncheon that members will remember for a long time! She invited Ruth Bonner, 95, the only living charter member, who lives in a retirement community in New Jersey. Dr. Bonner maintains her membership in Beta Chapter, and was delighted to come "home" for the celebration. She brought with her three other residents of the retirement community who are members of Delta Kappa Gamma chapters in New Jersey. Dr. Bonner gave a short talk about the early years of Beta Chapter and what it meant to her. Other highlights of the meeting are below:

(right), introduced scholarship recipient Rita DiSpiritu, a non-traditional
student who has returned to college for an education degree at
Kutztown University. Rita spoke from her heart about what it meant
to her to have the support and opportunity to become a teacher.
She spoke of the teacher in her village in Italy who inspired
her at age six with the dream of someday teaching, too.

Lucretia Page, 2000-2002 chapter president, presents a certificate of recognition and a gold charm bookmark to Dr. Ruth Bonner for her contributions as charter member and two-time chapter president. All past presidents in attendance at the luncheon also were presented with a certificate recognizing their contributions and a bookmark.
