CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF ALL GRADUATE STUDY (8/08)
STATE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

  1. An applicant must have been an active member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for no fewer than two years prior to January 1 of the year in which she applies. The applicant must be a member of Alpha Rho State.
  2. Applicants must show evidence of excellence in scholarship, service to Delta Kappa Gamma and the community, general good health, and effective interpersonal skills.
  3. At least four recommendations are required with each application for a graduate study scholarship. One should be from a member of the applicant's chapter. Recommendations must be mailed directly to the State Scholarship Chairman by each letter's author.
  4. A small optional photograph may be attached to the application for use by THE NEW OREGON TRAIL. Do not use digital photographs.
  5. If the proposal is for study toward an advanced degree, a college transcript of the last degree completed is to be sent directly to the State Scholarship Chairman by the appropriate college or university. If in the second year of an advanced degree program, a transcript should be sent from the institution in which the candidate is enrolled.
  6. All application materials are to be sent to the Alpha Rho State Scholarship Chairman and received no later than March 1.

CRITERIA FOR ALL COMMEMORATIVE SCHOLARSHIPS, INCLUDING THOSE FOR PERSONAL ENRICHMENT

The Isabel Huston Commemorative Scholarship may be used for graduate study, special certification, or personal enrichment. Use the Regular application form for this award. A simplified application form may be used for Personal Enrichment scholarships, which are awarded three times during the year. The simplified form is to be submitted to the State Scholarship Chairman postmarked by December 30, March 1, or July 30.
  1. Personal enrichment opportunities can include short-term programs such as Elderhostel or similar study programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, and non-credit courses that will aid in your personal growth.
  2. Delta Kappa Gamma members are limited to one award per calendar year.
  3. These awards will be made three times a year.
  4. Applicants will be notified within one month following each deadline.
  5. Certificates for the award will be presented at an Alpha Rho State Function
  6. Recipients may be asked to write a short article of their experience for the New Oregon Trail.
  7. Applicants are urged to reapply if unsuccessful in obtaining an award.
Additional REQUIREMENTS and Information:
  1. Applicants may be:
    • Working on a doctoral degree
    • Working toward a master's degree
    • Working in post-graduate studies
    • Seeking special certification
    • Seeking assistance for workshops or personal enrichment projects
    • However, they may not be working toward an initial bachelor's degree.
  2. The academic program proposed must be one that will further qualify the applicant in the field of education.
  3. An applicant may apply for a Delta Kappa Gamma International scholarship and an Alpha Rho State scholarship, but she may not accept both in the same calendar year.
  4. If, for any reason, a scholarship recipient cannot fulfill her proposed plan, the remainder of the scholarship is to be returned to Alpha Rho State.
  5. An Alpha Rho state member may receive a total of 3 Alpha Rho State scholarships in her lifetime.
