Alpha Rho State 2014 Convention

Mt. Bachelor Village Resort
Bend, Oregon

May 2 - 4, 2014

Welcome!

Join us in Bend to learn about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Whether you are interested in learning how to incorporate STEM in your classroom or how to Skype with your grandchildren, we have it covered!

The 2014 State Convention in Bend will be a laid back and relaxing event. We have fun activities planned, such as the Alpha Rho Scavenger Hunt, tours, wellness activities on Saturday morning, and more. Convention will be a time to network with old and new friends, have great food and drink, and to learn all about what is happening with STEM from early childhood to retirement.

Festivities will kick off on Friday afternoon with the Hospitality Room, the first clues for the Scavenger Hunt, Convention registration, and checking into our rooms at the Mount Bachelor Village Resort. The first official event will begin on Friday night with the General Session and Executive Board Meeting...we hope to see you all there!

Saturday will be jump-started with a variety of wellness activities such as a walking group, Tai Chi, and water aerobics. What a fun way to start a busy day!  Our first keynote speaker, Dr. Chris Maples, President of the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) will start us off before we move into our workshop sessions. Dr. Maples' has a wealth of knowledge in the STEM field, and he is excited to be joining us in Bend.

We have exciting STEM workshops planned for both Saturday morning and afternoon. Whether you are an early childhood, elementary, middle, high school teacher, or are retired, there will be something for you at each session. A sample of workshop sessions includes robotics in middle/high schools, brain games for those who are retired, and engineering in early childhood. Following a scrumptious lunch, settle in for our afternoon keynote speaker, Rita Hansen, SEO of Onboard Dynamics. Ms. Hansen will share her thoughts on her journey as a woman in the STEM field.

After everyone has had a chance to buy tickets for the basket drawing in the conference center hallway, the drawings for winners will take place after the last workshop sessions. Awards and recognition of the Presidents will follow, with a relaxing networking dinner to follow. On Saturday evening, join the Local Pour, a Pub tour that promises to be a fun event? If you don't feel up to the tour, relax and connect with friends in the Hospitality Room.

We hope everyone will stay for Sunday's events, which begin with the White Rose Ceremony, followed by breakfast, GPS Eco Challenge. If you don't feel like joining the tour, you and your family can go swimming, hiking along the Deschutes, or go for a leisurely bike ride before leaving for home.

There is something for everyone at the Alpha Rho State Convention at the Mount Bachelor Village Resort. We hope you and your family are able to join us!

What to Wear

One of the unofficial themes for this year's convention is "relaxation." With that in mind, there are no formal events scheduled. We encourage you to bring the following: casual clothes and a jacket for the cool mountain evenings. Also plan to bring your swimsuit to join the fun in the pool and sneakers for walking.
