Lambda Outreach Programs
“Born
to Read”
Since
1996, Lambda Chapter has been involved in a “Born to Read” project.
Members go into the birthing classes at two local hospitals and
speak to prospective parents. Our 30-minute program includes a discussion of child
development and of the importance of parents reading to their children.
Age appropriate book selections are shared and a short film is
shown. At the conclusion of
the session, each family is given a packet that contains a handmade bib, a
book, and some helpful pamphlets.
Donating
to CAVA
In
our most recent outreach program, Lambda members collect travel-size
toiletries, as well as blankets, toys, diapers, books, and school
supplies. These are then
presented to a representative from CAVA (Citizens Against Violent Acts) in
time for the holiday season.
