75th Anniversary History UnderwayPreparation of the 75th Anniversary History of Alpha Zeta State is underway and requires the collaboration and cooperation of all members!
Dr. Judy Merz has agreed to undertake the writing of the history and has reached out to past presidents, chapter presidents, and state committee chairs to provide reports for inclusion in the history, which will include information from 1938-2013!
Deadlines for reports are as follows:
Given the scope of the history, Judy will be happy to have these reports earlier than the stipulated deadlines. (Hardcopy with names of those responsible)
Judy also invites all members to submit ideas, information, or photos for the 75th Anniversary History to her at jrmerz@aol.com. Please use Word formatting for text and jpeg for photos! Electronic submission is preferred, but if you must submit hard copy, send it to Judy at 2641 Rue Toulouse Avenue, Henderson, NV, 89044.
Let's all work together to capture the rich and inspiring history of Alpha Zeta State as part of our 75th Anniversary celebration in 2013!
The goal for this biennium is to provide and develop a comprehensive, intensive and exemplary leadership training model via collaborative teams to build a strong network of future state and chapter leaders in an era of increasing change and challenge. Inclusive, respectful and active participation and representation from nineteen chapters will ensure we develop a common understanding of the nature and complexity of change and come to consensus for the good of the organization. We will work to draft a strategic plan, update state bylaws/chapter rules to reflect our needs, revisit our history and reorganize our state archives in anticipation of our 75th diamond jubilee celebration in 2013.

Sunday at Convention
A workshop on strategic action planning for chapters will be presented by the Board's SAP team at the 2012 International Convention in New York. If you missed the workshop at your regional conference, or if your chapter has not developed its Strategic Action Plan, be sure to attend. The presenters and their email addresses are Dr. Beverly Helms (bevhelms@embarqmail.com), Jeannette Zuniga (jeannette@saborio.org) and June Bowers (bowersjunem@yahoo.com.)
In addition, plans are to have five special regional SAP workshops for representatives who attended the 2011 regional conference SAP preconference training sessions or who are identified by their state organization presidents. Approaching Deadlines:
Many states and chapters are developing positive ideas for assisting loyal members who struggle to pay dues in tight financial times. The International Membership Committee reviewed Illinois State Organization's many ideas for assisting members with dues and shares them here with you.

We would like to remind all "future" chapter officers and leaders that it is essential for them to attend a leadership development training workshop for chapter officers/leaders on Saturday, June 2, 2012, remember to mark your calendars!
Leadership development is an integral piece in the lattice during this biennium to move AZS forward as we seek to gain new members! "Leadership is not a one-day thing. It is a constant commitment to excellence, a habit...a daily practice." John F. Kennedy, Jr.

The first meeting of the Alpha Zeta State Strategic Planning Ad Hoc Committee met on November 19, 2011, in Bordentown. The ad hoc committee was created by State President Roxanne Adinolfi in response to a request from international to develop a Strategic Action Plan for AZS. The committee is composed of a past chapter president and retired teacher, Kathleen Coe; immediate past state president, teacher, and AZS representative for SAP- DKG, Claire Swanson; past state president, state expansion chair and university professor, Dr. Mary Lee Batesko; teacher, state initiation chair, and member of one of the largest chapters in AZS, Amy Weinstein; current chapter president and teacher, Pam Watkinson; 2nd Vice President, state membership chair and retired teacher, Mary Conover; and AZS president, university supervisor, and educational consultant, Roxanne Adinolfi, ex-officio.
The committee members viewed the strategic action plan process through varied lenses based on diversity and experience. They also reviewed multiple Strategic Action Plans from other states, cross-referencing and comparing the plans to find exemplars, including that of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Alpha Zeta State's committee agreed to focus on five major areas important to the sustainability and viability of New Jersey's chapters: membership, finance, society impact on education, communication/technology, and leadership development. These five core areas may be expanded by additional concerns identified by the state's membership in a survey to be shared in January, 2012.
The survey is being implemented to provide the data necessary for the committee to advance its charge: to draft a strategic action plan for Alpha Zeta State. Following compilation and review of the information from the member survey, state members in the determined focus areas, with the direction and assistance of the SAP committee, will be asked to create objectives, timelines, and responsible parties for meeting goals and objectives to move Alpha Zeta State forward.
"Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now."
The International Membership Committee has completed a new orientation guide that is available on the International Web site. Chapter membership committees will find the information and resources helpful in planning and implementing their program for inviting new members. A new, professional invitation to membership letter is included and a slide show that highlights the purposes of the Society and the opportunities that membership affords are available in the program.
