Roxanne Adinolfi of Sigma Chapter is Alpha Zeta State President for
the 2011-2013 biennium. Roxanne has served as First Vice President during the present 2009-2011
biennium and as Corresponding Secretary from 2005-2009. In addition to her work in these offices,
she has also previously served at the state level as chair of music and chair of initiations, and at the
chapter level as President and in numerous other offices and committee chairmanships.
A cum laude graduate of Georgian Court University with a B.A. in Elementary Education, Roxanne also earned an Ed.M. in Reading from Rutgers University with post-graduate studies in Reading/ Language Arts at the University of Pennsylvania and Rider University. She has served the field of education for 36 years, working as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, literature instructor, basic skills teacher, staff developer, mentor teacher, and adjunct professor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Roxanne is a member of a wide variety of professional organizations and has served as an officer for many of them. She has presented more than 150 professional workshops, in-service programs and keynote presentations for local, state, regional and international organizations, including the DKG International Convention in Spokane.
Roxanne has received numerous awards during her career, including Outstanding Catholic Educator (1999), New Jersey General Assembly Resolution (1999), Mary G. Filosa Reading Teaching of the Year (NJ Reading Association, 2000) and Best Practice Award for Professional Development in Cherry Hill (2004). She continues to provide professional staff development workshops and to develop strategic plans for public school districts and private and parochial schools. She is currently serving as an adjunct professor and supervisor of student teachers at Rider University.
Recording Secretary for the 2011-2013 biennium is Sharon Long of Iota Chapter. At the state level, Sharon is now serving her second
biennium as Installation Chair. Prior to that she served Iota Chapter as First Vice President from 1998-2002 and as President
from 2002-2006. During the present biennium she is acting as Corresponding Secretary and serving on chapter committees.
Sharon graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She has taught in the city of Camden throughout most of her career. Her present position is teacher of fourth grade at the Forest Hill School in Camden. Her leadership abilities were quickly recognized by her colleagues, for whom she has served as her building representative in the Camden Education Association.
In addition to her service to Delta Kappa Gamma, Sharon is widely known throughout NJEA as a leading educator for her work as the NJEA delegate to NEA and NJEA Government Relations Chair. She has served for several terms as President of the Camden County Education Association.
Second Vice President for the 2011-2013 biennium is Mary Conover of Pi Chapter.
At the state level Mary has served as Recording Secretary. Previously she has acted as
Convention Co-Chair and as Rules and By-Laws Chair. Her dedication to the Society is evidenced by
the fact that she has taken on the responsibilities of chapter president for three biennia and has also
served on a variety of chapter committees. She received the Key Award in Pi Chapter in 1999.
After receiving her B.A. degree in History and English and an M.A. in Education at the University of Kentucky, Mary taught for a few years in Kentucky before coming to New Jersey. She then held a number of positions, including those at the supervisory level, before receiving her degree as a Library/ Media Specialist from Glassboro State College. She retired as a Library/Media Specialist and a Project W.R.I.T.&E. Trainer in 1994.
In addition to her active involvement with Delta Kappa Gamma, Mary has been affiliated with a number of other professional organizations, including the American Library Association, National Council of Teachers of English, and Kappa Delta Pi. She is also very active in church and community projects serving those in need as well as animal rights and care organizations. including the Ocean City, Maryland, Humane Society.
Carol Schwartz of Gamma Chapter is serving Alpha Zeta State as
corresponding Secretary.
Carol is widely recognized by the members of Alpha Zeta State as the tri-chair of the Convention
Committee for the past four years. She has also served as the state Social Chair. At the chapter level
she was President during the 2004-2006 biennium, after previously holding a succession of offices and
serving on a number of committees.
After graduating from Trenton State College with a B.S. in Elementary Education, Carol worked for the
Trenton Board of Education for thirty-seven years, until her retirement in 2008. She served for a numbers
of years as Teacher Leader for a Learning Community at the Dunn Middle School in Trenton, as
well as a member for many years of the Language Arts Curriculum Committee and the Testing Committee for the district.
In 1993 she received the Mercer County Governor's Recognition Award.
Carol is also active in community organizations. She is President of the Adath Israel Sisterhood and advisor to the B'nai
B'rith Girls. She is also a volunteer for the New Jersey Special Olympics and the Carousel Program for Mentally Challenged
Adults.
Claire Swanson of Alpha Chapter has just completed her
biennium as Alpha Zeta State President for the 2009-2011 biennium. She will, of course, continue in leadership positions at the chapter, state and international levels.

First Vice President is Barbara Smith of Omicron Chapter. Previously she has served two terms as chapter president as well chair of a number of committees and the founder of the Bag for Babies project in her chapter.
Barbara received her B.A. degree in Elementary Education at Glassboro State College, followed by
an M.A. in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in Michigan. She also did additional graduate
work in administration and supervision at New Jersey City University and Capella University.
Barbara worked for 27 years as a classroom teacher and then in various district positions, the last ten years in administration, in the Little Egg Harbor School District. Over the years she introduced many curriculum innovations in both reading and math. She co-chaired the Little Egg Harbor Curriculum Committee and worked collaboratively in planning professional development for the staff and curriculum design and creation for all content areas at the elementary level. At one time, while working as an administrator, she took on and successfully performed all the responsibilities of superintendent for a period of five months. Her most recent position was as Assistant Superintendent, which she held for four years before retiring in June 2010.
Barbara is a member of a number of professional organizations both in New Jersey and nationally, including the NJ Principal and Supervisors Association, the International and New Jersey Reading Associations, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
Nominations Committee Chair is Dr. Marilyn Gonyo of Lambda Chapter, formerly
Alpha Zeta State President from 2003-2005. She had previously served as state First Vice President
from 2001-2003 and chair of a number of other committees at the state level, currently serving as Chair
of Rules and By-Laws. In recent years Lynn has also served at the International level as a committee
chair or member.
Lynn earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Rowan University, followed by her M.A. in Reading at Kean University and an Ed.D. in Special Education at Rutgers. She began her professional career in Piscataway Township as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and learning disabilities teacher consultant. This was followed by positions at Montclair State University, Georgian Court, the New Jersey Department of Education, and as an adjunct at Rutgers, Kean, and Fairleigh Dickinson Universities. She is currently serving as President of the Education Assessment Center.
In addition to her service to Delta Kappa Gamma, Lynn has also been active in a number of other professional organizations and community groups, including being a member of the Board of Directors of the NJ Reading Association and serving as a Past State President of the NJ Association of Learning Consultants, of the NJ Council for Learning Disabilities and of the NJ Schoolwomen's Club. She is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Distinguished Service Award from Rutgers University Graduate School of Education.
