US Fund for UNICEF Regional Offices and Website Offerings (www.unicefusa.org). This website provides general information about UNICEF and the various activities in which it is currently involved.
United Nations Academic Impact Initiative. There are now over 750 institutions enrolled in the UN's Academic Impact Initiative. Academic Impact activities have been or are now being sponsored by universities in all parts of the world. Many events (such as those recently held in the Philippines, Japan and Korea) are regional conferences. Some are co-sponsored by universities in different countries, and others are e-conferences or video conferences on various global issues.
Institutions wishing to join Academic Impact can find its purpose and principles, list of members and enrollment information at www.academicimpact.org. Announcements about AI activities are available at http://outreach.un.org/unai. In addition, several issues of The United Nations Academic Impact Newsletter have now been published. To be put on the mailing list, write to: academicimpact@un.org. See issue 7, May 2012, of the Newsletter for an announcement of an essay contest for university students in which they would imagine a speech to be made by the Secretary-General of the UN on the importance of working together in this time of global interdependence.
Nicholas Kristof's Blog. Attendees at the CTAUN Conference at the UN last January found vignettes of women and children in different parts of the world presented by the morning's keynote speaker, Nicholas Kristof, to be eye-opening, at times inspiring, and at times heart breaking. His columns in the New York Times often tell about tragic situations he sees in various parts of the world. By following Kristof's blog (www.nytimes.com/ontheground) readers can find out how to help those in need he writes about, and on September 29, 2011, a column titled "Just Look at What You Did!" tells what happened as a result of one such outpouring of aid.
Girlup.org. The Girl Up Campaign is sponsored by the UN Foundation. The website describes agencies Girl Up works with to support programs for adolescent girls as part of the UN Adolescent Girls Task Force. A program on the PBS NewsHour on August 9, 2011, focused on ways in which teens in the US can be connected with girls in developing countries.
One of the most important aims of CTAUN is to motivate educators to find ways of helping their students learn about the goals and work of the United Nations in all parts of the world. For each conference a theme is chosen which examines a world problem and ways in which the UN and other agencies approach possible solutions. Teachers and community leaders are encouraged to use the information and materials from these conferences as they develop their own curricula and to share the results with CTAUN through "Best Practices Awards". Application deadline: Submit completed application to Jacqueline Abbott via e-mail or snail mail by 1 November 2012.
Each year CTAUN grants an award or awards for "Best Practices" inspired by the conferences presented during previous years. A practice that some educators find successful may lead others to consider ways of teaching about the United Nations or about global issues that are suitable for their students or groups.
Projects selected for the Best Practices Awards will receive recognition at a future CTAUN Conference and will be posted on the CTAUN website.

Linda Dix, Best Practices Award 2009
CTAUN takes very seriously the needs of our educators with respect to time. Teachers at virtually every conference we've held have asked for lesson plans, materials and activities to accompany our conference themes. Check the website: http://www.ctaun.org/teacher-resources/
