President's Message...
Greetings from Ann:

I hope your year is going well!  It is exciting to move into our program year to re-connect in fellowship with you, a key woman educator in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
The latest Delta Kappa Gamma NEWS announced our new vision statement:  Leading women educators impacting education worldwide.  This statement is a concise way of telling about our honor society of 115,000 key women educators in 16 countries that provides professional and personal growth opportunities for members at all levels of education.
We are challenged by International to add new members this year.  We are encouraged to consider inviting members from an educational environment not currently represented in our chapter.  Invite prospective members to our February meeting.  Bring recommendation of new member forms to our March 7 meeting.  Encourage prospective members to learn more about Delta Kappa Gamma Society International by attending an Informational Tea at Leslie Hagemeister’s on March 14 at 10:30 a.m.
Beta Chapter’s 2009 programs are off to a musical start with our first meeting held in conjunction with “A Celebration of Women and their Music” on Sat. Feb. 21.  Deb Jenkins inspired this meeting when she talked to us last spring.  It will be a fun way to spend an evening.  We are encouraged to bring Dr. Seuss books to this meeting for the Dr. Seuss Birthday Party that will be held at the YWCA Shelter.
On March 7 we will learn about and practice physical fitness at the Waterford’s Fitness Center.  Their address is 1200 Harwood Drive in south Fargo.  It is east of Courts Plus Fitness, right off South University Drive and 34 Avenue South.
In April we will discuss the book “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson.  It tells about his efforts to build schools for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Read the book, but come to the meeting even if you haven’t.  Please let me know if you have recommendations for other books about Afghanistan to include in a list of suggested readings.  My Email is ann.braaten@ndsu.edu.
During our May meeting we will initiate our new members and we will learn about Camp Casey.  Several members of Beta Chapter are very active with Camp Casey, a camp for children with cancer.  It will be great to hear about their work and to learn how we can be supportive of their efforts.
Please join me in offering our thanks to the ad hoc committee for writing standing rules for our chapter.  Members are Connie Knain, Alice Jondahl, Muriel Vincent, and Verna LaBounty.  These rules will guide our chapter in its work.  Take time to read them and offer suggestions as the committee reviews them with us.
