New
Partnership with UNICEF
Under a new agreement signed in 2009, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International and UNICEF expand an initiative from six to eleven
countries in eastern, southern, western, and central Africa. The
original six countries were Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, South
Africa and Zimbabwe. The additional five are Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger,
Ethiopia, and Madagascar. Teacher training is a prominent part of the
program, along with the building or rehabilitation of schools, the
provision of clean water and sanitary facilities, furniture, and
learning materials. (For more information see www.schoolsforafrica.com).
The Schools for Africa Campaign will be presented to the membership
following Executive Board approval this July at the International
Convention in Spokane for approval as a Society project.
The Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN) presents
Third Annual Conference in Atlanta, March 12, 2010. Last summer CTAUN
announced that it had received a grant of $5,000 from the Elise
Boylston Memorial Foundation of Psi State (Georgia) to assist in
funding this conference.
Delta Kappa Gamma members are actively involved with the organization
of these conferences and as official representatives at the United
Nations Department of Public Information and the Economic and Social
Council. They are also all members of CTAUN.
