    SHOE -IN Challenge!!
The International Membership Committee has issued the SHOE-IN Challenge!! Recognition of all chapters who maintain the number of members from January 2009 through May 2010, or increase the overall membership, or add a member from an educational environment not currently represented will occur at the International Convention in Spokane, Washington, July 2010. Beta Chapter could be one of those chapters IF each of you make an effort to recruit a new member this year!!! Please  complete the Recommendation to Membership that can be downloaded from the International web site
And bring it to our March meeting.
An Informational Tea is planned on March 14 at 10:30 a.m., at Leslie Hagemeister’s home (507 21st Avenue South, Fargo).
A GREAT way to encourage future members is to ask them to attend a meeting before hand. Why not invite a friend to come to our February meeting at  Zandbroz’s, Dakota Soda Restaurant, and then join us at the historic Fargo Theatre for “A Celebration of Women and Their Music” event?  It would be wonderful to see a few new faces at this meeting!!

Dr. Seuss Books needed for March.
Last year, a Golden  Grant was awarded to us for the project, ”Spark a Reader”. This fall we had a fall festival at the shelter in October  and several NDSU students for Maureen Scott’s class  had activities in November and December at the shelter. In March, we would like to have a Dr. Seuss birthday party at the shelter and our goal would be to provide Dr. Seuss books for the kids to keep since many have left their homes without their own books and toys and we know the importance of books for preparation for learning. Please bring new or gently used Dr. Seuss books to the February 21 event, A Celebration of Women and Their Music. Any questions, contact Linda Coons, Deb Boyer, Maureen Scott or Yvonne Timian.

Hello Sisters!
I just called the Fargo Theatre (235-4152) and purchased my ticket for the Twelfth Annual “A Celebration of Women and Their Music” on Saturday, February 21. It was easy and quick! They even offered to mail it to my home for an additional fee but I chose to just  pick it up at “Will Call.” As you know, “A Celebration of Women and Their Music” is the brainchild of Deb Jenkins (Google her web site) renowned blues singer, chef, and caterer. The show features regional women performing a variety of musical genres from popular to classical. Each year brings newcomers to the stage as well as selected return favorites. It’s a non profit event to encourage young women in the arts The money raised continues this event and adds to an endowment which fund an annual scholarship. The award will be presented during the concert and the show will feature a performance by the recipient. I don’t know about you but I am REALLY excited for this event!! Having met Deb at our March meeting last year has made it even more special!
FYI-there will also be Pre and Post-Show events this year. If you want to have a fun evening the night before, go to Atomic Coffee at 7 p.m.  to see Kris Kitko. The Chicago Tribune claims that Kris Kitko can light up the room with her "disarming sense of humor" and "considerable talent." More information about this and other Pre-Shows at the Deb Jenkins site.

Don’t forget we are meeting at Zandbroz Variety Store’s  Dakota Soda Restaurant for  supper and our February meeting. They will set up a Buffet Style meal with a variety of choices so that we can personalize our order which will include  a sandwich,  a soup, a pasta salad, and a treat for $8.50. Ice water will be available at no charge but they also have an Expresso bar, lattes, Italian sodas, old-fashioned ice cream sodas, teas, etc for an additional fee. Don’t forget to invite a friend who might be interested in joining Beta Chapter to this meeting. Please let Linda Coons know if you and a friend  are taking advantage of the meal by February 16th so that Dakota Soda Restaurant will have enough food available.

Am anxious to see each of you there!
