Grants and Scholarships
 
Adeline Stevenson Nurse Scholarship
Following the death of Adeline Stevenson Nurse on July 12, 1983, Beta Chapter received a bequest of $10,000 for a state scholarship to be administered in her name by Beta chapter "for North Dakota women teachers who are attempting to attain their graduate degree in education." Money from her estate has been kept intact and added to with only the interest earned available for scholarships. The first was awarded in 1986, and presently, the scholarship is given in alternate years with the most recent recipient being Ann Sorteberg, Zeta Chapter, Mayville, ND in 2005 in the amount of $500.

David Kegel Memorial Music Grant

This grant begun with a bequest from Beta Chapter Member Jane Kegel in memory of her husband. First awarded in 2001 it provides funding for a junior high school music student to attend the International Music Camp at the International Peace Gardens on the North Dakota-Canadian border. In 2006, Hillary Breedan of Discovery Junior High School received an award of $250.

Recruitment Grant $250

Forerunner of this grant was an essay contest on "Why I Want to Be a Teacher" conducted in 1947. Roberta Hartwell, Central High School, Fargo, ND won the contest which carried a $50 award.
Beginning in 1964 and continuing to the present, the Recruitment Grant has been awarded to a high school senior who plans to pursue an education degree. Applications are accepted from area high school girls and the award is $250. In May, 2005, Kayla Frappier of Oak Grove High School received the grant.
