Beta Chapter Established January
30, 1941
Miss Hazel B. Nielson, state president of Alpha Omicron
State of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, presided at the
organization of Beta Chapter following a banquet at the Graver Hotel on
January 30, 1941.
Seven women participated in initiation ceremonies for new members. They
were Signe Euren, Helga Hulbert, Alice Tibert, Della Crothers, Minnie
Anderson, Lydia Grotberg, and Ethel Conklin. Jennie Champine was made
an honorary member.
Other members previous initiated at Milwaukee and Valley City were
Sadie Walker, Adelaide Phillips, Adeline Stevenson, Ina Best, Mary
Fowler, Gladys Carney, and Isabelle Ramstad.
Selected as officers for Beta Chapter were Adelaide Phillips,
president; Mary Fowler, first vice-president; Helga Hulbert, second
vice-president; Gladys Carney, treasurer; Isabelle Ramstad, recording
secretary; Lydia Grotberg, corresponding secretary; and Della Crothers,
parliamentarian.
Scrapbook articles indicate Beta members spent the first months
becoming acquainted with the ideals and aims of the organization and
with each other. In addition, they discussed local and state
educational problems. Miss Stevenson was active in the State Education
Association which worked for legislation improving the Teachers'
Retirement Fund. Members planned to attend the international convention
in Minneapolis. At the convention Alpha Omicron State presented the
figurine of Linda Warfel Slaughter as its Pioneer Educator. In 1945 a
figurine honored Mattie N. Davis (sister of Jennie Champine).
