Qualifications for Membership

To be considered for active membership a woman must:

1. Have had professional preparation.

2. Have had three or more years of experience as a professional educator.

3. Shall be employed in educational work at the time of her election.

4. Be an educator who is employed or lives in the chapter area.

5. Have professional proficiency, with characteristics such as:

• knowledge and skill in her area of educational work

• active participation in professional groups at local, state, regional, national and/or international levels

• interest in professional growth revealed through reading, attending workshops, participating in educational travel and pursuing graduate study

• willingness to participate in professional research and investigation

• ethics in professional relationships

• willingness to assume leadership responsibilities

6. Have personal attributes such as:

• initiative

• open-mindedness

• tactfulness

• enthusiasm

7. Have been a contributing member of her community.

 

Timeline For Sponsoring New Members

November - March

• talk to prospective women about Delta Kappa Gamma

• invite them to be your guest at a meeting

* have interested women complete application form

March

• turn in application forms to Membership Committee

April

• the Board and membership take action to approve new members

May

• attend Orientation Tea (for new members and sponsors)

Fall and/or Spring

• initiation ceremony for new members

Becoming a sponsor means:

1. Keeping in contact. Phone the woman you have sponsored before meetings. Plan to drive together, sit together at meetings.

2. Introducing the new member to others in Eta Chapter.

3. Encouraging the woman you have sponsored to be active, perhaps to serve on the same committee.

4. Sponsors might like to buy a membership pin for the woman they have sponsored, with the understanding that when the new member sponsors someone, she will in turn purchase a pin for next new member.
