The Alpha Upsilon Chapter was chartered on February 6, 1960 after branching off from the Alpha Beta Chapter in Winn Parish.  There were twelve members from LaSalle Parish, the minimum number required to organize a chapter, and since the Alpha Beta Chapter had grown so large it was decided that it was in the best interest of all involved to create a new chapter for the LaSalle Parish members.
    The chapters continued to meet together until July, 1960 when Alpha Upsilon began to meet in Jena.  For several years the chapters held an all-day reunion meeting in May of each year where friendships were renewed and lots of good fellowship enjoyed.
    The twelve charter members of Alpha Upsilon were:  Beatrice Cammack, Juanita Kendrick, Mary Nicholson, Dorothy Portier, Maxine Reeves, Elsie Seals, Mabel Sessions, Evelyn Tannehill, Voncille Tarpley, Mildred Thomas, Dorothy Woods and Mildred Williams.  Mrs. Elsie Seals was elected to serve as the first President and Mrs. Beatrice Cammack was chosen as Vice President.  Of these twelve, Mrs. Voncille Tarpley remains a reserve member.
