Dr.
Mary Catherine Flath is a Professor of
Anatomy and Physiology, and has been teaching at Ashland Community and Technical
College since 1994. She
received her B.S. in Biology from St.
Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN (1984), and her Ph.D. in Pathology from the
Medical University of SC, Charleston, SC (1991).
Mary
Cat works diligently to improve retention and success in her A&P courses,
and was honored as the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Central
Region Faculty Award winner in Seattle in September 2005.
Mary Cat mentors junior and adjunct faculty, and advises pre-professional
students at ACTC. Mary Cat and her
students promote numerous community service projects, including Safe Harbor
donations and “Operation Christmas Child”.
Mary Cat has served as Academic Team Coach at Holy Family School since
2003.
At
ACTC, Mary Cat serves on several local committees and in KCTCS, she is a 2003
graduate of President’s Leadership Seminar, and a 1998 graduate of Leadership
Academy. She coordinated KCTCS’
Disability Training Workshop, and has served on the Rules Committee and Senate
Council for a total of eight years. Dr. Flath has a published textbook supplement (with McGraw-Hill),
she and her students serve as reviewers of their textbook, she is a credentialed
specialty trainer in Genetics, and is an
active community volunteer.
Mary Cat joined Delta Kappa Gamma in 1998 at the
invitation of Dr. Barbara Walters-Morris.
She is first Vice-President, and chair of the Scholarship and Program
Committees. Mary
Cat is married to husband Al (23 years), and her pride and joy is her son Allen,
age 14, an 8th grader at Holy Family School.
Mary
Cat’s passion is gourmet cooking, and she is looking forward to a brand new
kitchen any day now.
