Linda’s Story
My Delta Kappa Gamma story began thirty years ago when I was starting college in pursuit of my childhood dream to become a teacher. Two very special ladies, Vera Magerkurth, who had watched me grow up in my church, and Louise Deckers, a school principal, submitted my name to be Mu Chapter’s recruitment grant recipient. These two ladies were important influences in my life and were the epitome of what it meant to be a professional educator. Throughout my college career Mu Chapter provided me with funding for college and invited me to their annual Christmas meetings to share my love of music and engage in wonderful conversations. These women had a passion for teaching and inspired me to be the best teacher I could possibly be.
As soon as I was eligible for membership, these same special ladies invited me to join Mu Chapter. Throughout all these years my sisters in Delta Kappa Gamma have been my mentors, my supporters, and my friends. Whenever teachers come under fire by the public or I am discouraged about the state of education, I remember the Delta Kappa Gamma sisters I have admired for so many years. It has been a privilege to work with and develop friendships with my Mu Chapter sisters and other key women educators from around the state. I am looking forward to my next thirty years with my Delta Kappa Gamma sisters. ~ Linda Tobin, Mu Chapter |
