CT CrestAlpha Kappa State currently includes 16 local chapters of nearly 1,000 members who are public or private school teachers, teacher librarians, educational specialists, principals, administrators, and/or other key women educators in Connecticut. Each year Alpha Kappa State organizes a Fall Conference and a Spring Convention. These special events not only support and extend the professional and personal growth of Alpha Kappa State members, but also focus attention on current educational issues and concerns. Each local chapter also organizes special programs, projects and activities throughout the year.


 

Delta Kappa Gamma at the UN

Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 is the last day to register for this year's CTAUN Conference
"Education IS a Human Right."
It will take place on Friday, Feb. 3 at the UN in NYC.

In June of 1995 Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was granted Non-Governmental (NGO) status with the Department of Public Information at the UN (UN/DPI).Anne-Marie Carlson was appointed as Delta Kappa Gamma's first primary representative. The Fall 2010 DKG@UN Fact Sheet offers additional information about DKG at the UN and its connection to our seventh purpose, "To inform members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society.”

The Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN), formed in 1966, includes a group of members of various NGO's that are interested in education. CTAUN conferences have been held every year since 1999. This year's CTAUN conference was held on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at the UN headquarters in New York City. Current Noteworthy Projects

At the 2010 International Convention, Delta Kappa Gamma adopteda new project in conjunction with UNICEF. Schools for Africa: Transforming Lives through Education is a joint campaign founded by UNICEF, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Hamburg Society to promote education for children in Africa. The campaign will increase access to quality basic education for children with a special focus on girls, orphans and vulnerable children. --from the UNICEF brochure

Another worthy project adopted by Delta Kappa Gamma is Tom's Shoes. For every pair of shoes purchased by a DKG member, Tom's Shoes gives a pair of new shoes to a child in need. Tom's Shoes is listed under the 'Shopping' menu on the international website, where you'll find a wide variety of shoes in many styles and colors.
