Scholarships are offered to financially assist members of Alpha Kappa State who are enrolled in accredited programs of graduate study or who attend national/regional professional workshops and/or institutes.
Three scholarships are available each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Scholarships are awarded in the fall and the spring, or as long as the designated scholarship amount is available:
- Carmella Maiewski Scholarship $700.00
- Ella Rice Scholarship $700.00
- Joan Lee Scholarship $700.00
Applicants must have 2 years membership in good standing in Delta Kappa Gamma and an endorsement from the chapter president.
Applications may be made at any time during the year, as long as the application is made within six months of acceptance by the institution offering the course of study or workshop.

A maximum of $1000 with the option of an additional loan of $1000, to be repaid to the society within three years, will be awarded to an applicant whose request, although worthy, is ineligible for scholarship assistance.
The fund also provides an opportunity to recognize special service to the Society. Donations may honor members, state presidents, founders, and honorary members at the time of their deaths. Contributions from members or chapters to honor a member are possible at any time.
Alpha Kappa State Achievement Award
The Alpha Kappa State Achievement Award honors Delta Kappa Gamma members who have made significant contributions to chapter, state and international activities. The award consists of a high quality pendant and an appropriately worded and framed certificate.
No more than three members shall be honored each biennium. This honor takes place at the Spring Convention in odd-numbered years. Members nominated in previous years but not honored may have their names resubmitted. A deceased member may be considered to be honored posthumously; in that event, chapter and family members would receive the award.
Achievement Award Nomination Form and procedure:
- A member may be nominated by a chapter or an individual.
- Signatures of three members must be presented to the chapter for endorsement.
- When nominated by a chapter, a simple majority of those present will be required.
- The nominating chapter will seek endorsements from at least two additional chapters.
- The nomination form must be postmarked no later than January 1 in odd-numbered years.
Qualifications:
- Significant contribution to Delta Kappa Gamma (Chapter, State, and International)
- Active in Chapter for at least ten years
- Active in Alpha Kappa State
- Has held a state office or has been a state committee chair
- Attends some, but not necessarily all, Regional and International conventions
Alpha Kappa State Outstanding Service Award
Alpha Kappa State Outstanding Service Awards are presented to outstanding community volunteers who, without thought of recompense, devote time, energy, and caring attention to the children and youth of Connecticut. Recipients are not required to be members of Delta Kappa Gamma. Undoubtedly, many worthy candidates within Connecticut's individual communities deserve the recognition and honor of our Outstanding Service Awards. These awards are given at the Spring Convention in even-numbered years.
Outstanding Service Award Nomination Form and procedure:
- Nominations may be made by chapters or by individual chapter members.
- Complete the nomination form describing the nature of the nominee's volunteer work.
- Include three letters of recommendation from Chapter members, youth, or community members who have knowledge of the nominee and his/her volunteer work.
- Submit nomination form and additional documentation by snail mail to Kathie Tong, 116 Ratlum Road, Barkhamstead, CT 06063. Form is due by Mar. 1, 2010.
